The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) will visit schools across Nebraska in October to celebrate the 16 winners of its 2026 Name-a-Snowplow contest. Now in its sixth year, the contest invited K-6 students and classrooms statewide to submit their most creative snowplow names.
This year, NDOT received 2,460 entries representing 165 schools across 96 communities. Two winners were selected from each of NDOT’s eight geographical districts. The winning names will be displayed on NDOT snowplows and can be tracked in real time on Nebraska 511. Each winning student or classroom will be recognized during a school celebration featuring an interactive presentation from NDOT maintenance employees, a look at how snowplows help keep Nebraska roads clear during winter weather, and an opportunity for students to tour the newly named snowplow and ask questions. NDOT employees will be available for interviews. NDOT’s Name-a-Snowplow competition teaches students about winter road safety and the essential work of snowplow operators.
