The McCook Bison softball team playing their sixth game in three days on Tuesday took down the visiting Wray Eagles 11-3 in 5 innings from the PFC Gearld Walters Youth Sports Complex.
McCook was on the attack from the very first inning, scoring in all but one inning in the contest. In the first the Bison would score three runs with Leighton Anderson driving in one of the runs on a sac fly and the other being driven in by Lilyanna Stauch on a single putting McCook in front 2-0.
Ellie Havlicek would get the start for the Bison and would only allow one hit through the first two innings. In the second McCook would tack on two more runs when Karragyn Brown doubled home Aiden Renner and Joslin Miller extending the Bison lead to 5-0.
In the fourth Wray would get their first run of the game on a groundout from Isabel Oestman that brought home Danyelle Davis cutting the McCook lead to 5-1. The Bison would get the allowed run right back and then some in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs highlighted this time by Scarlett Thayer who came of the bench and delivered a two RBI double with the bases loaded as McCook pushed the lead out to 10-1 entering the 5th inning.
McCook would only need three outs to end the game in the fifth but the Eagles wouldn’t let them off that easy as Wray would score two in the inning to force the Bison to bat again. Wray managed to get to RBI singles in the inning one from Davis, who would end the night 3-3 at the plate, and Zoey Merritt to cut the lead to 10-3. The McCook defense would come up big in the inning when the Aiden Renner in left field would throw out Davis who was trying to take third on the single from Merritt and end the the Eagles scoring threat. In the bottom of the inning with the Bison needing one run the top of the order would deliver as Havlicek would get on with with a single Brown would work a walk and Hannah Peterson would double home the winning run.
Havlicek had another stellar performance in the circle going five innings for McCook allowing just three runs while striking out four and walking just three. Brown led the way for the Bison at the plate reaching base four times in the contest scoring two runs and driving in two as well.
McCook now 5-2 on the season will travel to Holdrege for the Holdrege Invite this weekend.
