
The Oberlin Red Devils baseball traveled to Ellis for their first road contest of the season taking on the Railers in a doubleheaders. Ellis took both games by finals of 15-0.
GAME 1 RECAP
The Ellis Varsity Railers defeated Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils 15-0 on Wednesday at Ellis thanks in part to eight runs in the second inning.
Ellis Varsity Railers got on the board in the first inning after Byers grounded out, scoring one run.
Ellis Varsity Railers scored eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Reese singled, scoring one run, Blackwill singled, scoring one run, Byers doubled, scoring two runs, Ruf singled, scoring one run, Born singled, scoring one run, and Byers grounded out, scoring two runs.
Ellis Varsity Railers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Blackwill grounded out, Byers grounded out, and Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils committed an error, each scoring one run.
Blackwill earned the win for Ellis Varsity Railers. The starter allowed one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Ostmeyer took the loss for Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils. The right-handed pitcher went three and one-third innings, giving up 14 runs (12 earned) on 10 hits, striking out none and walking three.
Fortin led Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils with one hit in two at bats.
Ellis Varsity Railers accumulated 11 hits in the game. Byers provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Ellis Varsity Railers with four runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Leadoff hitter Aschenbrenner led Ellis Varsity Railers with two hits in three at bats. Blackwill, Born, and Ruf each stole multiple bases for Ellis Varsity Railers. Ellis Varsity Railers ran wild on the base paths, accumulating nine stolen bases for the game. Ellis Varsity Railers were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
