The City of McCook Water Department will continue flushing water mains through March 31st.

The city says the flushing is an important maintenance activity that helps ensure the quality and reliability of the city’s drinking water system.

During the process, water is circulated at high velocity through fire hydrants to remove mineral deposits and sediment that may accumulate in water mains over time.

Residents in the affected area may notice temporary discoloration of water or reduced water pressure during flushing operations.

The city says while the water remains safe to drink, people are advised to avoid doing laundry if the water appears discolored.

If discoloration occurs, officials say running cold water from a faucet for several minutes should clear the lines.

Drivers are also asked to use caution when traveling near crews working in the area.

The Water Department appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this routine maintenance is completed.
