Nebraska football returns to Memorial Stadium Saturday, Sept. 5, for the first home game of the season. As thousands of fans make their way to Lincoln, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU), and the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) are reminding drivers to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and to be prepared to take a different route than in previous years.
Game day traffic patterns will be different this year due to ongoing construction projects in and around the Lincoln area, particularly for drivers traveling from Omaha and eastern Nebraska. Drivers should plan ahead, allow an additional 30 minutes to an hour for their trip and know which exit and route they plan to take before leaving. Drivers will need to allow more time to get to their destination due to construction in the following areas in and around Lincoln:
Construction on I-80, west of Lincoln from the Pleasant Dale exit (Exit 388) to Exit 399. |
Adams Street is closed in both directions between N 1st Street and N 11th Street for reconstruction of the Adams Street bridge over I-180. |
I-80 between Exits 399 and 403 is impacted by bridge construction, with some sections reduced to two lanes, and reduced speed limits through the work zone. |
I-180 between US-34 and Exit 1 to Superior Street is in a head-to-head traffic configuration with one lane of travel in each direction and reduced speeds for bridge construction. |
US-6 is closed in both directions between Charleston Street and Oak Street for reconstruction of the US-6 bridge. |
I-180 between Exit 2 to Cornhusker Highway and US-34 is two lanes in each direction, with concrete barriers on the shoulders and in the median around the Adams Street bridge for construction. |
Access to northbound I-180/westbound US-34 from eastbound I-80 is closed. |
Access to southbound I-180 from westbound I-80 is closed. |
Construction on US-77, south of Lincoln between Yankee Hill and Old Cheney. |
Drivers coming in from Omaha and eastern Nebraska are asked to avoid using Interstate 180 (I-180) to enter
Lincoln and instead use one of the route options below.
From Omaha (northeast):
I-80 to Exit 409 for Waverly/US-6 and follow US-6 west to Cornhusker Highway. |
I-80 to Exit 405 to 56th Street. |
I-80 to Exit 403 at 27th Street to Salt Creek Roadway. |
If you miss the recommended exits above, take I-80 to the Lincoln Airport Exit 399 to NW 12th Street that turns into Cornhusker Highway, to I-180 south into downtown Lincoln. |
