
Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils couldn’t keep up with Goodland Cowboys and fell 15-0 last Friday at Goodland.
The Goodland Cowboys opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. The Goodland Cowboys first got on the board when Reid Cure singled, scoring one run.
The Goodland Cowboys added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Brodi Meier singled to center field, and the Goodland Cowboys scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.
The Goodland Cowboys scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Deegan Knox drew a walk, scoring one run, Meier singled, scoring two runs, and Blade Owens grounded out, scoring one run.
The Goodland Cowboys scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Meier singled, scoring two runs, Kaleb Williams drew a walk, scoring one run, and Owens singled, scoring two runs.
Williams earned the win for Goodland Cowboys. The left-handed pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Josiah Pattangall took the loss for the Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils. The right-handed pitcher went three innings, allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking four.
Tyler Ostmeyer and Caden Shaw were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for the Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils. The Decatur Community Varsity Red Devils turned one double play in the game.
The Goodland Cowboys collected 13 hits in the game. Meier led Goodland Cowboys with three hits in four at bats. Williams, Cure, and Joseph Von Lintel each collected multiple hits for the Goodland Cowboys.
The Goodland Cowboys had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Williams and Knox led the team with two walks.
The second game of the doubleheader was called off due to the weather conditions.
Oberlin is back in action on Thursday when they host Holdrege, NE for a doubleheader with game one set to begin at 4:00 PM.
