(Oberlin, KS) – The Oberlin Red Devils football team cruised to a 52-28 victory this past Friday night against rival Rawlins County.

The game would start slow between the NWKL rivals as each team would trade punts thru the first three drives of the game. The Red Devils would get the ball near midfield to start their second drive of the game would get the games first big play on a 41-yard run from Josiah Pattangall. Just one play later Kaden Sowers would score the games first touchdown on a 7-yard run to put the home team in from 8-0 after the two-point conversion run.

Rawlins County would respond with their longest drive of the night to that point taking the ball deep in Oberlin’s territory before they would be turned away on 4th down. Just two plays later Kaden Sowers would get his second touchdown of the night this time on a run coming from 49 yards out to extend the Red Devil lead to 16-0 after the two-point conversion run.

The Buffaloes would score for the first time to begin the second quarter on a four yard touchdown run from quarterback Dominick Paz. Oberlin’s next drive would take them all the way to the 10 yard line before the ball would be ripped out of Pattangall’s hands for a turnover. The Red Devil defense would again force a three and out and with just minutes left before the end of the first half.

On their final drive of the half Oberlin would march down the field before a penalty would force Oberlin into a 3rd & 20 situation on the opposite side of the 40. The Red Devils would then lean on their running back Pattangall who would find a open space and make a catch falling to his back on a perfectly placed pass from Brady Gehring to keep the drive alive. On the very next play Gehring would throw another perfect pass this time to Gage Williby for a 29-yard touchdown. Oberlin after another two-point conversion would take a 24-6 lead into the half.

The Red Devils would get the ball with a short field to start the second half and use it to their advantage driving down the field and scoring just und three minutes into the quarter on a Gehring two yard touchdown run to make the score 30-6. Oberlin would score on its next drive on a five yard Pattangall run and lead 38-6 going into the fourth quarter.

Each team would exchange punts in the start of the 4th quarter before Gehring would pick off Paz and run it back to the endzone for a pick six to put the Red Devils in front by 40 with a 46-6 lead. From that point on Oberlin would just score one more time on a 30-yard run that would could in between 3 scores from the Buffaloes.

The Red Devils(6-1, 4-0) will now face Hill City(6-1, 4-0) on the road this Friday to see who will take home the district championship. Coverage can be heard on 101.1 KFNF with the Decatur Co-Op Red Devil Gameday pregame show starting at 6:00 and kickoff set for 7:00 pm.
