Matthews Selected for All-Star Futures Game

LINCOLN – Former Nebraska All-American Brice Matthews was selected by Major League Baseball for the 2025 All-Star Futures Game.

Matthews will join a group of 25 prospects on the American League roster that will go against 25 prospects on the National League roster on July 12 at Atlanta’s Truist Park. The game will be televised nationally on the MLB Network at 3 p.m. CT.

A first-round pick with the No. 28 overall selection in 2023, Matthews is slashing .285/.403/.492 with 11 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs, 39 RBI and 23 stolen bases at Triple-A Sugar Land in the Houston Astros organization. He is currently tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in triples, third in stolen bases, tied for fifth in walks and 10th in OBP among qualified batters.

Matthews is the fifth former Husker to play in the Futures Game, joining Jamal Strong (2001), Alex Gordon (2006), Joba Chamberlain (2007) and Spencer Schwellenbach (2023). All four Huskers eventually reached the Major Leagues after playing in the Futures Game.
