Oberlin Red Devil Baseball Falls To Ell-Saline Cardinals After Surrendering Big Fifth Inning

The Ell-Saline Cardinals scored eight runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat the Oberlin Red Devils 13-3 on Friday.

Oberlin opened the scoring in the first after a dropped third strike scored two runs.

Ell-Saline made the score 5-2 in the top of the fourth after Jake Hodges drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and Lucas Swetson singled, scoring one run.

The Cardinals scored eight runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Jaxsen Seed drew a walk, scoring one run, Swetson singled, scoring two runs, Reese Krone homered to left field, scoring three runs, Hodges drew a walk, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored one run.

Julian Roche earned the win for Ell-Saline. The righty gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out 11 and walking three. Josiah Pattangall took the loss for the Red Devils. The righty went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking six. Kaden Sowers led things off on the mound for Oberlin. The hurler surrendered four hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking three.

Sowers led the Red Devils with one run batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day.

The Cardinals piled up nine hits in the game. Hodges, Halo Post, and Swetson each collected two hits. Krone and Swetson were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs. Ell-Saline had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Hodges and Krone led the team with two free passes each. The Cardinals stole five bases in the game.

Oberlin’s season ends with a record of 0-17.
