Three McCook Community College softball players have been named to the all-Region IX team.
Sophomore Ella Covill-Marter and freshman Anna Elliott were named to the first team and freshman Lexi Knapp (Berthoud, Colo.) received honorable mention.
Covill-Marter, right-handed pitcher from Queensland, Australia, led MCC in innings with 154. She was 15-8 this season with a 3.55 ERA and 225 strikeouts. That strikeout total was eight most among all NJCAA Division 1 players following regional tournaments.
This is the second year she has topped the 200-strikeout total. For her career she went 27-18 in 63 games with a 3.87 ERA and 460 strikeouts in 328 innings. She will continue her career at Ferris State University, a D2 school in Big Rapids, Mich.
Elliott, outfielder from Calgary, Alberta, batted .370 with 12 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, 15 stolen bases and 49 RBIs in 51 games. She had a .417 on-base average and slugged .660. She started the season hitting grand slams in two of her first three games.
Knapp a pitcher/infielder from Berthoud, Colo., topped the Lady Indians offensively with a .472 batting average and .525 on-base average. She hit 11 home runs and was co-leader in RBIs with 69. Against Region IX opponents, she hit .494 with six homers and 35 RBIs in 24 games. Knapp was selected Region IX player of the week March 11-17.
