SHARON SPRINGS, KS- The Oberlin Red Devils Girls basketball team used a strong first half to walk away with a 36-27 win over Ness City in the first round of the NWKL Tournament.
With the win, the Red Devils improved to 5-4 on the season, while Ness City dropped to 4-4 on the year.
Oberlin would dominate the opening quarters, forcing many turnovers on defense and running a great offense, building up a five-point lead after the first quarter and a 14-point lead heading into the break.
The second half would be a completely different story, as Ness City would come out of the locker room on a different team. The Eagles would outscore the Red Devils in the third quarter 13-4 to cut the 14-point lead down to just five heading into the fourth.
Oberlin would see the lead shrink to one after Ness Cities Rilan Turner would hit a three to pull the Eagles to within one with just 6:21 left in the game. The Red Devils would call a timeout after the shot, and this time, they would be the ones to come out as a different team.
Oberlin would score on the first possession out of the time out and, from that point on, go on a 12-4 run to close out the game and walk away with the victory.
The Red Devils got a double-figure night out of Brylee Minnick scoring 12 points, while both Aidyn Witt and Kamryn Oien would score 8 points.
With the win, the Red Devils move on to the semifinals of the NWKL Tournament to take on rival Quinter, who boasts a 7-2 record after their 20-point win in the first round.
