Three McCook Community College volleyball players have received Region IX South accolades with three players being named to the All-Region IX South squad and two named to the Region IX-All-Tournament team.
Sophomore Kiera Barr, 5-8 libero, was named to the All-Region IX South team. The MCC co-captain led all players in the south region with 640 digs and was second with 4.89 digs per set. She is also 10th in the nation with that dig total among the players from 100 Division I NJCAA schools. Barr, of Granby, Colo., played in 37 matches and also had 111 assists and 34 service aces – both totals in the top 15 in the south.
In addition to gaining All-Region IX South honors, Barr was selected to the All-Region IX Tournament team along with freshman teammate Fernanda Canedo, (Cochabamba, Boliva).
Canedo (5-9 outside hitter) was also named to the All-Region IX South team. She led MCC with 429 kills, second most in the south division (14th most in the nation). She averaged 3.30 kills per set, and had 1,216 total attacks on the season, totals which ranked third and second in the division. Canedo had 33 service aces, 434 digs, 22 solo blocks, and scored 504 points on the year – all totals which ranked in the top 10 for players in the Region IX South.
Freshman Kallie Cathcart, (Holly, Colo.) was the third Lady Indian named to the All-Region IX South team. Despite missing 10 games because of injury, the 5-7 middle-blocker had 77 block assists on the year (third most in the south, 10 solo blocks and 87 total blocks – all totals which ranked in the top 20 for players in the south division. In addition, she also had 135 kills and 45 digs.
For the fourth year in a row, the Lady Indians, who went 25-12 on the year, were named winners of the Sheila R Worley Sportsmanship Award.
