On Wednesday, June 5, in Grand Island, a Kawasaki motorcycle was observed going 80 miles per hour by troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol. The area, South Locust Street, is a 50 miles per hour zone. When the troopers tried to stop the motorcycle, it disregarded the attempted traffic stop and began to flee. As the motorcycle began to speed over 100 miles per hour, a pursuit was initiated.
Eventually, the motorcycle began speeding northbound on Highway 281. Another vehicle was crossing Highway 281 on the West Old Potash Highway intersection when it collided with the motorcycle, concluding the pursuit after 5 minutes.
The driver of the motorcycle was sent to Grand Island’s St. Francis Hospital where he was officially declared deceased. The other vehicle involved in the accident was a Volkswagen Passat, it’s driver was not injured. The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) has requested that the Grand Island Police Department conduct an investigation.
