LA JUNTA, Colo. — The McCook Community College softball team lost all four games over the weekend in Colorado. On Saturday the Indians dropped a pair of high-scoring, one-run games to Otero Junior College 12-11 and 11-10. On Sunday MCC lost to Trinidad State 17-5 and 8-3.
Chanel Siebenthal (Lakewood, Colo.) and Alexis Moeaki (Las Vegas) helped lead the way offensively combining for 15 hits on the weekend. Siebenthal was eight-for-16 with two home runs, two doubles, two steals, and four RBIs. Moeaki was seven-for-13 with a double, triple and three RBIs.
The Lady Indians are 18-14 on the season with six games set for this week. MCC hosts Northeastern Junior College Wednesday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. This weekend the Lady Indians hit the road for Lamar (Colo.) Community College and play doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
Otero Junior College 12, MCC 11 (8 innings): MCC took a 5-3 lead in the fourth inning, trailed 9-5 in the sixth but scored four times to tie the game at 10-10.
Alexis Moeaki went three-for-four with a double, triple and a pair of RBIs. Chanel Siebenthal had a double and single, Emily Charchuk (Victoria, B.C.) had a pair of hits, Kathy MacDiarmid (Spring Creek, Nevada) had a pair of hits and Taylor Ford (McCook) had a double.
Taya Thorpe (Malad, Idaho) took the loss (13-11) surrendering nine earned runs in 7.1 innings, she allowed 14 hits and struck out two.
Otero Junior College 11, MCC 10: MCC took a 6-0 lead in the first, added four more in the second to lead 10-0 but Otero responded with three runs in the second, four more in the fourth and came up with four runs in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.
Jerusha Miner (Gunnison Valley, Utah) was two-for three. Kaylee Wengren (Taylorsville, Utah) had a double with three RBIs. Emily Charchuk had a home run, and Taylor Ford drove in four runs.
Taya Thorpe (13-12) took the loss allowing three hits and two earned runs in 0.2 innings. Kayla Harrison (Richmond, B.C) went 5.2 innings, allowed 12 hits and five earned runs.
Trinidad State Junior College 17, MCC 5: The Lady Indians scored three runs in the first but Trinidad State came up with seven in the bottom of the frame. MCC responded with a pair of second runs and The Lady Trojans one run, to take an 8-5 lead. After three-straight half-innings on scoreless ball, Trinidad State scored nine times in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
The Lady Indians had nine hits in the game with two each from Emily Charchuk, Chanel Siebenthal and Alexis Moeaki.
Taya Thorpe (13-13) took the loss for MCC.
Trinidad State Junior College 8, MCC 3: In the weekend finale Trinidad State scored three runs in the second, two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
MCC was held to seven hits in the game. Chanel Siebenthal went three-for-four with a double and a home run. Jerusha Miner had two doubles in three at bats. The other hits came from Alexis Moeaki and Taylor Ford.
Starting pitcher Taya Thorpe (13-14) took the loss.
