The Western Nebraska men opened up the Region IX Tournament Saturday with a 116-61 win over McCook Community College.
The Cougars came out hot, shooting 63.6 percent from the floor for the game, and made 19 of 32 attempts from the 3-point-line (59.4 percent).
Six Cougars ended up in double-digits led by Trent Harris with 23, and Jervay Green with 20.
Freshman Junior Cunningham (Louisville, Kent) led MCC with 13 points and five rebounds. D’Von Moore (Statesboro, Ga.) had 10 points.
MCC shot 40.4 percent from the floor, made six-for-17 from 3-point range, and 17 of 29 free throws (58.6 percent).
Both teams turned the ball over 17 times. Western won the rebound edge 36-27.
Western improves to 23-7 and moves on to the second round of the Region IX tournament.
MCC finishes the season 18-13.
