The McCook Bison boys track and field team won their third straight Class B6 district meet yesterday. The Bison racked up 123 points, 21 more than runner-up Sidney. Bison senior Zach Schlager brought home gold in the 110 high hurdles. He also ran on the 400 meter relay that finished second with a season-best time of 43.1 seconds. Sam Smith brought home gold medals in the 200 meters (21.9) and 400 meters (50.3). DJ Gross qualified for the state meet with second-place performances in the shot and discus. Morgan Fawver also punched his ticket for Omaha with season-best performances in the triple jump (43’1) and long jump (21’3). The Bison 3200 meter relay won with a time of 8:13. The Lady Bison scored 67 points and sixth place overall, but were just four points out of first place Sidney. Shayne Coleman picked up a district title in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet. Emily Jacobs ran a season-best time of 2:21 to win the 800 meters. The Bison 400 meter relay team of Laurel Schmidt, Jaden Bryant, Holli Thomas and Emily Arp also qualified for the state meet with second-place finish (50.7). Haiden Loop, Kyleana Blau and Elsie Stevens all qualified for the pole vault by hitting the qualifying standard of 9’5.
